SUCF SUNY Stony Brook University, Student Services Center Renovation

Owner: SUNY Stony Brook University

Architect: Spector Group

Location: Stony Brook, NY

Size: 150,000 SF

Construction Cost: $40 Million

The Spector Group was awarded a SUCF project for the rehabilitation of the Student Services Center at SUNY Stony Brook. The project is a gut rehabilitation of the 150,000 square foot building with a construction budget of approximately $40 million. JFK&M was engaged to provide LEED Consulting services for the project.  Our role was to manage the LEED process during design and construction and to document the project‘s compliance with the LEED Silver rating system requirements.

The Student Services Center will house The Bursar’s Office, Office of Student Financial Aid, Office of the Registrar, Admissions Counseling Services as well as multipurpose rooms, classrooms, a large lecture hall/auditorium space and a street-front Student Cafe. It will also be home to the Student Life areas of the campus such as student clubs, student media, campus ministry service centers and the technology site access on campus.

Specifically, JFK&M worked with Stony Brook, the team of consultants and the commissioning agent before and after design to determine the LEED goal and possible attainable credits for the project.  We then handled the project registration, which is a declaration of intent to certify this building under the LEED Green Building Rating Systems. JFK&M researched Regional Priority Credits and possible Innovation Design Credits and prepared a LEED checklist/Score Card for the project and as well as oversaw the application for LEED certification.
